Viewfinder: Model of John Fitch Steamboat Makes Maiden Voyage

The six-foot working replica of Fitch's famous invention was released in a pond at the Warminster Community Park Saturday morning.

Onlookers gathered Saturday morning at the Warminster Community Park to watch as members of the Craven Hall Historical Society placed a working model of John Fitch's steamboat into one of the ponds and let it set sail on its maiden voyage.

Model maker Fred Rosse created the six-foot replica last year in honor of the opening of the on the grounds of . After a test run in a swimming pool, this was the boat's first operation on open seas.
