William Tennent Student's Grad Project Made Them All Winners In These Eyes

William Tennent Student does his best to trample Ovarian Cancer

Yesterday I had the pleasure of being invited to participate in one of our very own William Tennent Student's Graduation Projects.  Matt Carter who is on the cross country team at William Tennent organized a 5K run in honor of a wonderful woman.  "The Honoring the Taken 5K" benefited the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in memory of his sweet grandmother Phyllis McGuriman.

When I pulled up the atmosphere was kind of like a celebration.  Now maybe everyone doesn't look at things the same but to me I was witnessing Matt and his family celebrating the life of Mrs. McGuriman and her heroic fight of 5 years against this monster that takes too many women we love. Sadly it took her life this past September but not without one heck of fight from a lovely women with more feistiness than I've ever seen.  Matt chose this organization to help to keep that fight going a little longer.  I'd have to say just doing this...he already won in Phyllis's eyes in heaven.

Matt and his family were all there and had everything very organized.  The participants were eager to do this run/walk and were kids, adults and even a few dogs all joining Matt in one more tango with Cancer.

The 5K went off without a hitch and the mood was festive!  I had to laugh, one man said "it's all in how you look at it ...I could be in the top 15 or the bottom 3."  I'd have to say that every man, woman and child who was there was absolutely #1 in these eyes and I'm sure in the eyes of Phyllis.

Matt had over 56 people participate and raised over $1000 dollars (approx) for ovarian cancer.  Personally I'd like to applaud Matt in his efforts.  While many kids just do their grad projects on what they'd like to become some day Matt chose to do his and incorporate what he loves with who he loves and make it one of the nicest things I've ever seen.  A grandson honoring his sweet Grandmom had tears running down this face for sure.

Congratulations Matt Carter....you've always been a winner in these eyes and now the whole world has proof that you are a winner:)  You should be very proud of yourself.... I know we all are.
