John Joseph Lafferty, 88, Founder of Lafferty Chevrolet

Lafferty served on the Board of Directors of Hatboro Federal Savings Bank for 32 years, the Hatboro Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce for Warminster and the American Diabetes Association of Philadelphia.

John Joseph Lafferty, a believer in Jesus Christ, of Hazelton, formerly of Doylestown died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at Hazelton General Hospital. He was 88.

He was the beloved husband of Melane Grovich-Pavlick Lafferty and the late Mary Loretta McKeown Lafferty who passed in 1998.

Born in Philadelphia, John was the son of the late John and Caroline Wiedemer Lafferty.

He was assigned to the Army Air Force during World War II.

John was raised in the Frankford section of Philadelphia, a graduate of North Catholic High School and Temple University, Class of 1949, with a degree in economics.

John was founder and owner of Lafferty Chevrolet in Warminster.

A member of Holy Name of Jesus Parish, John was on the committee entrusted in naming the Parish and a Communicant of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church.

John devoted many hours of service on the Board of Directors of Hatboro Federal Savings Bank for 32 years, the Hatboro Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce for Warminster, the American Diabetes Association of Philadelphia; he was Chairman of the Board and President, and a member of Kiwanis in Frankford.

John had such an inquisitive mind and an eagerness for fitness and life. He enjoyed stimulating conversations on any subject; crossword puzzles, card games, running, tennis, golf, and working in the yard. He always knew how to reach out to others. He was such a joy to all of his family and friends.

Guiding, loving, and supportive father to Jack and his wife, Maureen, Janice Romano and her husband, Leonard, Mary Steedman and her husband, Justin, Marian Whetstone and her husband, Gray, Beth Herrera and her husband, Mark, Catherine Stefanski and her husband, Michael, and Dr. William Pavlick and his wife, Judy; caring grandfather to 24 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Also surviving is his sister, Carol Catalano, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph; sister, Carolyn; and brother, Eugene Russell.
