Richard Cummings, 89, World War II Navy Vet

Richard S. Cummings of Warminster passed away Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Abington Memorial Hospital, Abington. He was 89.

He was the husband of the late Jane (Ferguson) Cummings, who died in 1997, for 44 years.

Born Oct. 24, 1924, in Bethlehem, Richard was the son of the late Henry and Pearle Mae (Gable) Cummings.

Richard proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during World War II. After the war he served in the Merchant Marines aboard oil tankers.

He worked until his retirement, for General Electric Corporation in their Home Appliance Division.

He attended Horsham Bible Church for many years.

After the death of his wife, Jane, he moved to Ann's Choice in Warminster, where he enjoyed varied activities including teaching classes in pocket billiards, and made many good friends.

Richard leaves behind three daughters, Rebecca Jane Cummings of Candler, N.C., Amy Jane Cummings-Leight and her husband, Ned Leight, of Souderton, Lauren Michele Jones and her husband, Dr. Robert D. Jones, of Raleigh, N.C.; two grandsons; three step grandchildren; a brother, Edwin Cummings and his wife, Amelia Boswell, of Harleysville; a sister, Louise Hunter of Barrington, N.J.; and a close friend, Betty Owens of Warminster.

In addition to his wife and parents, Richard was preceded in death by a brother, John Cummings; and sisters, Pearle Bell and Mary Weidner.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Richard's memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Chapel at Ann's Choice, 10000 Ann's Choice Way, Warminster. Interment will be held privately.
