Bank Robbery Suspect in Custody

An elderly Cheltenham resident has been charged with robbery.

A suspect in the of the branch on York Road in Warminster on Dec. 22 has been identified and arrested following a joint investigation by the Warminster Police Department and the FBI.

Barrie Golland, 73, from the Elkins Park section of Cheltenham, has been taken into custody and charged with robbery of a financial institution, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. His bail is set at $150,000, with a preliminary hearing tentatively scheduled for Jan. 6, 2012.

Last Thursday, Warminster police responded to an armed robbery at the  on Street Road. According to police Chief Michael Murphy, the suspect passed a threatening note to the teller and made off with an undetermined amount of money. Police say mainly $1’s and $5’s were taken in the robbery. The suspect fled eastbound on Street Road in a tan vehicle.
