Berks DA Files Homicide Charges Following Death of 2005 Hit and Run Victim

Michael Morrone has been charged with third degree murder after a medical examiner ruled that Christine McGhee's death in March was a result of the injuries she sustained when Morrone dragged her with his car in 2008.

The Berks County District Attorney's office filed homicide charges Tuesday morning against Michael Morrone in the death of Warminster woman .

McGhee died at Doylestown Hospital on March 18, almost four years after sustaining life-altering injuries when Morrone dragged her with his car in a parking lot at Kutztown University. The incident caused debilitating trauma to McGhee's brain and body. The former soccer player could no longer walk or speak, and she was cared for by her parents, Dawn and James McGhee III, at their Warminster home.

An completed by forensic pathologist Dr. Ian Hood determined that McGhee's death was a result of the injuries from the hit and run, according to the affidavit filed by State Trooper Robert Hess.

Marrone, from Marlton, N.J., was convicted in 2010 in Berks County Court for simple and aggravated assault and related offenses and sentenced to 5-20 years in prison. A guilty verdict for murder in the third degree carries a sentence of 20-40 years.

Please keep the McGhee family in your prayers as they strive to find some kind of justice for their sweet daughter Christine. This piece of filth was Christine's then boyfriend. He is responsible for taking a vibrant, vivacious young woman and causing her death. He ran her over with a truck and left her in an empty parking lot to die. No punishment will ever be good enough. Abuse of any kind is not okay. A controlling boyfriend or spouse is not safe for anyone. Speak to your children. Keep telling them. It is not okay for anyone to control another or abuse them in any way!! If you see your child acting abusive to a BF/GF speak out! If you see your child being abused speak out! Over and over if need be. Young men and women need to learn early on that as their parents we will not stand for them being abusive to anyone!!!! No one should ever have to go through what Christine McGhee went through. No one should ever have to say goodbye to their sweet girl because some animal thinks it's okay to abuse women! Speak up! Speak out! Make sure all the young people and old alike in your life know it is not okay!
