Car Accident Shuts Down Intersection of Bristol and Valley Roads

A FedEx truck knocked down a telephone pole, causing a power outage for the surrounding neighborhoods.

Police and fire crews from Warminster, Warrington, Hartsville and Warwick responded to the scene of an accident at Valley and Bristol roads Wednesday morning.

According to Warwick Police Chief Mark Goldberg, a FedEx truck ran into a telephone pole along Bristol Road, causing a power outage in the surrounding neighborhoods.

"It appears that traffic stopped at the light," said Goldberg, "but the truck could not stop in time, so it swerved to avoid hitting another car."

Roadblocks have been set up on Bristol Road at Stony Road and Guinea Road for east and westbound traffic and at Valley and Gray Lane for vehicles traveling north. As of noon, PECO had not yet arrived to work on restoring power.

Goldberg plans to get one lane open on Bristol once the power lines are removed from the middle of the street. He expects traffic to be affected well through rush hour.
