Cops: Warminster Man Allegedly Fled Scene of Motorcycle Crash

Police say the motorcyclist has been seriously injured by a hit-and-run crash that occurred Friday night.

A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Street Road and Park Avenue Friday night, according to Warminster police. Witnesses told police that the suspected vehicle continued westbound on Street Road and turned on Madison Ave.

Richard Walek, 49, of Kalmia St. faces a third degree felony count for failing to stop at the scene of an accident and misdemeanors for driving under the influence, plus related charges after police say they found his vehicle later that night with scratches on the passenger side door and front fender. The criminal complaint also says officers allegedly found blood and possible skin on the bumper of his 2002 silver Hyundai.

Walek allegedly told the responding officers that he drove himself and a friend home earlier that night from the VFW on Louis Drive, according to the affidavit. When asked if anything had happened on the way home, Walek replied, "No," according to police.

The officers also questioned the passenger, who confirmed that Walek had been driving that night and told police that he hit someone, the criminal complaint says.

The responding officers reported the odor of alcohol on Walek's breath while they questioned him, according to the affidavit. The criminal complaint says he failed three field sobriety tests and was taken to Doylestown Hospital for testing.

Walek posted a 10 percent cash payment on $200,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for Nov. 7 before District Judge Daniel Finello.

The identity and status of the motorcyclist has not been released by the Warminster police department.
