Man Medivaced After Being Burned By Fire

A man was taken by chopper to the hospital after being seriously injured in a back yard fire Friday night.

An adult male was seriously burned and had to be flown by helicopter to an area hospital after an incident involving a backyard fire in the 600 block of Whittier Drive in Warminster Friday night.

The man, whose identity is not being released at this time, was the only person injured during the fire, which did not extend to any homes, Hartsville Fire Chief Chris McDonald said.

Shortly after the man was taken by medical helicopter, smoke continued to waft from a small metal fire pit in the backyard as investigators took photographs of the scene.

By the time firefighters arrived at the home, all the flames were extinguished and emergency personnel began working to transport the victim to the field behind where he was flown to the hospital by a PennStar helicopter, authorities said.

As of late Friday night, the cause of the incident remained under investigation by the Warminster Fire Marshal's Office.
