A statement from the Warminster Police Department says the assailant, a white male possibly in his early 20s with a light beard and wearing a dark jacket, jeans and wool hat, took the purse from an elderly woman who was with her husband at the time. He then fled to the area around Street and Norristown roads.

According to a spokesperson with the school district, the Warminster Police Department recommended the lockdown around 10:45 a.m. as a safety precaution. Police told the school district that no weapons were involved in the robbery, the spokesperson said. It is unknown whether the suspect entered the grounds of either school.

Police units searched the scene, including a K-9 unit from the Abington Police Department. The lockdown was lifted at approximately 12:45 p.m., but the suspect has not been apprehended.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Warminster Police Detectives Division at 215-443-5000.
