SEPTA Train Strikes and Kills Man Near Hatboro Station

It is the second fatality in three days on the R2 Warminster line.

The R2 SEPTA train struck and killed a man early Wednesday morning, shutting down service between Warminster and Willow Grove as police and fire crews investigated the scene.

Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Walter Hofman identified the victim as 22-year-old Steven Gregory of Churchville. The coroner said Gregory's death has been ruled a suicide. The young man died of several injuries resulting from the strike, the coroner told Patch.

First responders got the call at 6:56 a.m. and arrived at Meadowbrook Road, in Hatboro where the man was hit by the southbound train.

Train service has been restored since 8:40 a.m., with residual delays expected.

The fatality occurred a few hundred yards away from . No children were at the school when the man was struck, but as students began walking to school, Principal Kari Hill escorted them through the police activity.

The incident comes just two days after 24 year-old Warminster resident was killed by the R2 train in Upper Moreland. A memorial fund has been established to help pay for his funeral costs. Donations can be sent to Scott Stevens Memorial Fund, First Niagara Bank, 298 Veterans Way, Warminster Pa., 18974. 

This is the fifth person struck by a train and the fourth fatality to occur in the Warminster-Hatboro area this year, . Authorities have said two of the deaths were and two were where individuals were walking on the tracks listening to music and did not hear the train approaching.
