Tollefson Headed to Trial on Fraud Charges

Philadelphia sports broadcaster Don Tollefson will head to trial on felony fraud charges for allegedly selling phony sporting event ticket packages in the name of charity.

Tollefson, 61, waived his preliminary hearing during a court appearance Thursday in front of Warminster District Judge Daniel Finello.

Tollefson was arrested by Warminster Township police in February after victims told police he sold them nonexistent ticket packages and said the money would go to charity.

The Bucks County District Attorney’s office says Tollefson has scammed about 150 people out of about $250,000, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

One of the events included in the ongoing investigation is Tollefson's participation as emcee of the Officer Brad Fox 5K Run/Walk at Warminster Community Park in April 2013.

The money raised from race registrations went directly to the Fox Children's Fund without incident, race officials told Patch this fall. However, Tollefson, who emceed the event, allegedly sold separate football ticket packages and said he would donate half the proceeds to the Children's Fund, with the other half going to his own non-profits. 

Race organizers told authorities they never received money from Tollefson. 

Tollefson has not yet entered a plea in the case, the Inquirer reported.
