Warminster Truck Driver Cited in Chicago Train Derailment

A Chicago Metra train collided with a semitrailer truck carrying five cars Monday afternoon.

A Warminster man has been issued two citations after police from Metra, Chicago's transportation authority, say he ignored rail signs before a passenger train collided with his semi-truck Monday afternoon, according to a report from ABC7 in Chicago.

According to the article, authorities say that Volodimyr Matkivski, 41, disobeyed traffic signs when he made an illegal left turn, then came to rest at a stop sign, disobeying another sign that said there was only 22 feet of clearance between the intersection and the track. His semi-trailer, carrying five cars, was still on the track when an incoming train collided with it.

The crash caused the train to derail in a northwest suburb of Chicago, sending three passengers to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to the report.

An article from the Daily Herald says that Matkivski claims he did not see any signs or warning lights. He is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 18.
