Candidates Set for Warminster Primaries

With the passing of the primary filing deadline on Tuesday, it looks like it’s going to be a two-man race for the single open seat on Warminster’s board of supervisors, left up for grabs by the outgoing Democrat, Gail Johnson. Mark McKee will run unopposed for the Republican nomination, while Jim Scott will do the same for the Democrats.

Both candidate earned endorsements from their local party committees and are ready to get the word out. The biggest challenge for an off-year election is drumming up voter turnout.

“Usually we see the real supervoters come out for the primaries,” said Ellen Jarvis, chairwoman of the Warminster board of supervisors and member of the Warminster Township Democratic Committee.

McKee currently serves as a resident advisor on the Parks and Recreation Conservation Board, a member of the Tricentennial Committee, where he was just appointed chairman of the Warminster Day subcommittee, and is an active member of Friends of Warminster Parks. Scott is a member of the township’s zoning committee and also serves on the finance and budget advisory board.

If McKee wins the general election, he would join Leo Quinn and Tom Panzer on the board and shift the majority in the Republicans’ favor.

“We need to get more efficiency in the government,” said McKee, who describes himself as a social and fiscal conservative. “We need to evaluate everybody and make sure they are doing the jobs they are supposed to. That’s the first step on tackling the budget problems.”

Also running unopposed is District Judge Dan Finello, who received endorsements from both party committees to retain his seat as Magisterial Judge.

Republican Thomas Davis will run as the incumbent for the open seat on the board of auditors, with Democrat Jim Brickman hoping to take the spot. Centennial School Board candidates for three seats in Regions 2 and 3 include:

The last day to register to vote in the primaries is April 18, with the primary elections taking place on May 17.
