County Receives $200K Grant to Help Disabled Residents Modify Homes

Bucks County residents and veterans with disabilities may qualify for state assistance under a grant recently awarded to the county.

State officials announced Wednesday that Bucks County has received a $200,000 Keystone Communities Accessible Housing Grant, aimed to help disabled residents and veterans make modifications needed to remain in their homes.

“This Keystone Communities grant will help fund modifications to facilitate improved caregiving and make it easier for these individuals to carry out everyday tasks,” Governor Tom Corbett said in an announcement.

The grant, awarded to awarded the Redevelopment Authority of the County of Bucks, will fund the Bucks County Housing Rehabilitation Program, which supports low-to moderate-income homeowners who are in need of repairs to accommodate their disability.

"This is a welcome funding source from the Commonwealth as we have over a dozen applicants on our waiting list,” said Bob White, Executive Director, Redevelopment Authority of the County of Bucks. “With the Commonwealth's assistance, we'll be able to ensure Bucks County's permanently disabled residents and veterans live in safe, healthy and accessible residences."   

Since its inception, the Redevelopment Authority has rehabilitated or improved more than 1,700 homes in Bucks County through the implementation of programs such as the Bucks County Rehabilitation Program, according to information from the state.
