Back in 2006, Warminster Township purchased a parcel of open space from with the hopes of creating a park for the community. Now, as the development is about to begin, the township is asking residents for help with naming the new park.
Through March 1, residents are invited to submit ideas by e-mail or postal service to the .
Plans for the park will include a walking trail connecting Cloverly Road to Norristown Road, a small parking lot by Norristown Road, open space for play and a tot lot, according to information on the township's parks and recreation website.
Since the department started the contest on Jan. 1, it has received about 10 submissions from residents, Recreation Supervisor Larry Derhagopian said.
Interested participants should submit name ideas via e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org or send a postcard to “Name That Park,” 1101 Little Ln., Warminster, Pa. 18974. Include your full name, address and phone number along with your submission.
The park is not yet under construction, Derhagopian explained, but discussions will be focused on the park at tonight's town meeting.
"Tonight there's a meeting with regards to [the park]," Derhagopian said. "We are getting community input tonight, then getting the funds to move forward."
At the meeting—which will take place Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. at the WREC—following a presentation, the community is encouraged to participate in the public comment period. Then the township plans to apply for a grant for the project, according to information on the website.
Those unable to attend the meeting can leave community comment through a survey on the township's website.
