Road Work Begins Monday on Rt. 1, Delays Possible

The northbound right lane of Route 1 in Middletown Township will be closed weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A bridge repair project set to begin Monday may cause weekday delays on Route 1 in Middletown Township.

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation announced this week that it will begin repairs on the U.S. Route 1 (Lincoln Highway) Bridge over Business Route 1 in Middletown Township. The northbound right lane will be closed weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Crews will be doing steel repairs to the bridge, which is currently classified as structurally-deficient

When the work on this bridge is completed in mid-January, the bridge will no longer be classified as structurally-deficient, according to PennDOT.

PennDOT advises motorists to allow extra time when traveling through the area.

The three-span concrete beam bridge was built in 1967 and rehabilitated in 1996. It is 156 feet long and 82 feet wide. It carries 30,350 vehicles day, according to data from PennDOT.
