Classes Will Resume at Tennent Thursday

A mechanical problem caused a pressure drop in the natural gas system. Evening activities at the high school remain canceled.

A mechanical problem in William Tennent High School's heating system forced school officials to send students home at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. As of 1 p.m. Wednesday, a PECO crew fixed the malfunction that caused the natural gas supply to drop in pressure.

Classes will resume to their normal schedule Thursday morning, but all of Wednesday night's activities at the high school, including a football game between Klinger and Log College, have been canceled. The football game will be rescheduled, said Centennial Superintendent Dr. Joyce Mundy.

"We were not sure how long the repairs would take," said Mundy. "We wanted to prevent the possibility that students would be on campus while PECO worked on the problem."

Mundy said that pressure in the natural gas line dropped as school began Wednesday morning. The shut-off valve worked properly and prevented any gas leaks in the school, Mundy said.

There was no danger to the students' safety, Mundy said, but the cold morning air dropped the school's temperature very quickly, prompting administration to send the students home early.
