MLK Essay Contest Deadline is Jan. 31; $300 in Prizes to be Awarded

United Way of Bucks County is hosting their fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr. essay contest for students in Bucks County.

United Way of Bucks County is hosting its fourth annual Martin Luther King Jr. essay contest for students in Bucks County. 

Students who attend school in Bucks County can enter by writing an essay about what service means to them or why people should volunteer on Martin Luther King Day. The deadline to submit essays is Jan. 31.

Three $100 prizes will be awarded to the best essay in the elementary, middle and high school level.

Essays must be submitted via email to danielleb@uwbucks.org as a word document or as a scan of a handwritten essay. Students must include their name, grade, teacher’s name, school name and school district in the upper right corner.

Winners will be recognized in the Bucks United annual magazine and at a Pep Rally breakfast in the spring.

The essays will be judged by a panel of volunteers and the best will be passed on to a team of professional writers. 

"The readers are looking for well-organized essays that show clear comprehension of volunteerism and service and also reflect creativity and heart," according to a press release from the United Way of Bucks County.

Last year's essay contest drew more than 650 submissions.
