Parents Invited to Meet with District Officials at Public Forums

Substitute Superintendent Dr. Joyce Mundy wants to hear the questions and concerns directly from the community.

The early termination of former Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Cressman's contract, the imminent completion of the new McDonald Elementary and a proposed tax raise in the 2013-2014 budget has the Centennial School District ending the school year on a rocky note.

Substitute Superintendent Dr. Joyce Mundy wants to hear all of the questions and concerns parents and other members of the Centennial community may have about the district and the direction it is taking. Her office has set up a series of public forums next week where she will address any issues that come up.

"I want to hear directly from the people in our community," said Mundy. "Our plan is for this to be just the beginning, with more forums to come in the next school year."

The sessions will all take place in the public board room at Centennial's administrative offices. The meeting times have been split up by educational levels, with day and evening hours to accommodate schedules. Elementary parents can come in Monday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

Middle and high school forum will be held Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and Thursday, June 13, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

These first sessions will be more of an open town hall setting that will give an overview of the larger issues concerning parents and community members. Mundy also plans to have a couple meetings over the summer about the opening of the new McDonald Elementary, plus more topic specific forums throughout the next school year.

"Increased communication with the public is going to be a top priority with the district moving forward," said Mundy.
