Slideshow: Nativity Walk-a-Thon

Nativity students marched around the school grounds Friday morning to raise money for classroom technology.

The warm Friday morning weather made for an inviting opportunity for Nativity of Our Lord Elementary students to stretch their legs for the 20th annual Walk-a-Thon. Originally scheduled for Thursday, the stormy conditions forced postponement o the event to Friday.

Ultimately, the situation worked out for the best, as the sun shined but the temperature stayed comfortable for the mile-long trek around Nativity's perimeter, followed by a lap around Archbishop Wood High School and ending in the back parking lot of Nativity. The finish line included crates of plums set up by lunch manager Jim Townsend.

The event was organized by the home and school association as a way to raise additional funds for classroom technology improvements. Classrooms raise almost $9,000, with Karen MacLeod's kindergarten class pulling in $1,028. Because they earned the highest total in the school, the students moved to the front of the line to lead the march with the Nativity Tiger mascot.
