Three Centennial School Board Incumbents Will Not Seek Re-Election

The terms of five of the members of Centennial's nine person school board will expire in 2011, but only two of those five are seeking re-election.

With primary election season right around the corner, some members of Centennial’s School Board are scrambling to get their campaigns in order.

Board Member Mark Miller and Board President Dr. Andrew Pollack face re-election this fall, but there are also three incumbents who will not be seeing re-election.

After serving one, four-year term on the board, Thomas Hezel announced last month that he will not be running for re-election.

Hezel said he did not wish to comment further on his decision, but said being a board member was a volunteer position that comes along with a substantial time commitment.

Hezel currently represents Region 3 on the board. This region is located in Warminster, west of York Road, and includes the Speedway section of the township. He said he encourages anyone with interest from that region to seek election.

Hezel’s announcement came on the heels of a similar declaration by School Board Vice President Thomas Reinboth.

Reinboth said he would not be seeing re-election after his term expired at the end of 2011. He cited impending family obligations as the reason for his decision but said he was not ruling out the possibility of returning to serve on the board in the future.

Reinboth represents Region 2, which includes Ivyland Borough and Warminster Township east of York Road with the exception of the Speedway section.  He, too, encouraged any interested party from this area to run for a seat on the board.

Region 1 will also have an open seat, as Board Member Cynthia Mueller announced last September that she would not be seeking re-election.

Centennial’s Region 1 encompasses all of Upper Southampton Township.

Anyone interested in pursuing a seat on the board can find the procedures for doing so on the Bucks County Board of Elections website.

But you better act fast, as the deadline for collecting and submitting the necessary signatures is Tuesday, March 8.

The Centennial School Board is comprised of nine district residents, three from each of the district’s three regions.
