Viewfinder: Longstreth Elementary Field Day
Students and faculty cooled off with water activities during the annual friendly competition.
The light cloud coverage and rising temperatures in the upper 70s did not stop faculty, parents, and students of Longstreth Elementary School from having a fun-filled and successful annual field day on Thursday morning.
The students were engaged in a number of activities, 14 total, outside in the main field behind the school.
The favorites were the water-based activities which included a water balloon pass and sponge toss.

The school was divided up into two teams – The maroon team and the tan team – based on age and last name according to Dawn Park. Park, who has worked for 12 years at Alta S. Leary Elementary School and 12 years at Longstreth Elementary School, now works as a substitute teacher at Longstreth.
“[Field day] is great because it teaches the kids cooperation and team building as well as good manners” Park said.

The students are told that it’s not necessarily about winning or losing, but doing the best to their capabilities.
At the end of the morning activities, which went on from 9 a.m. to 11:15 a.m., Fire Engine 93 from the Hartsville Volunteer Fire Company hosed down a crowd of hot and exhausted students – much to their delight!
