William Tennent Seniors Step Out for Prom

It was a night of memories for the graduating class, as they prepare for their future adventures.

The seniors at William Tennent High School were more than ready to dance and celebrate Friday night at the school’s 2011 senior prom in Ivyland.

The prom was held at the Spring Mill Country Club from 7 p.m. to midnight and included the usual prom staples such as a techno-club-lit dance floor, full buffet, and professional pictures.

More than dancing and celebrating, however, most seniors were excited to eat. A long day of fasting to ensure that the picture-perfect dress slips on without any snags really builds an appetite.

Senior Karin Lydon was anxious to get the night underway as she stood in the long line waiting to be ushered into the banquet hall.

“What am I most excited for? The food!” Lydon said, “I’m hungry.”

But it’s not all about food. Prom is also about friendships and above all, dresses. Lydon said that it was “nice to see everyone get dressed up, even people who don’t usually.”

Senior Amanda Plaksin shared a somber moment when she said, “I’m probably not going to see half of these people ever again. This is really the last time everyone gets together and sees each other.”

Plaksin and her date, Mike Hilinski, admitted they were both more excited to dine and dash than anything else. “We’re going camping” Hilinski said, and “I can’t dance.”

Looking even further into the future, Plaksin will be going to Temple University to study communications this fall, in the hopes that she might become a journalist someday.

Hilinski plans to go to Lockhaven University, majoring in geology.

But after the food is all gone and the dresses have been tucked away in the back of some bedroom closet, the seniors will face graduation and after that – something possibly even more terrifying – the rest of their lives.

Plaksin has only one piece of advice for her fellow classmates:

“Don’t try, just do it.”
