Archbishop Wood Falls to Carroll in Overtime

The Vikings had the lead with three minutes to go, but ended up losing, 40-38, in the PCL title match.

A last-second 3-pointer by Jackie Pierson fell just short of the net as the Archbishop Wood girls basketball team lost in overtime to Archbishop Carroll, 40-38, in the PCL Championship game Monday night at the Palestra, phillyburbs.com reports.

It was a championship rematch for both teams, as the Vikings defeated the Patriots in 2011 for the school's first Catholic League title in 28 years, just one stop on the team's way to its second consecutive PIAA Class AAA Championship.

“I have a great staff, who work very, very hard,” coach Jim Ricci told phillyburbs.com. “I have a great bunch of kids, and had great kids before them that showed them what our program is about. I have two coaches on staff that were players in this program, who tell our kids what it means to be a part of this program."
