Archbishop Wood Rallies for Championship Game

The Archbishop Wood Vikings are making their third consecutive trip to the PIAA Class AAA Championship game at Hersheypark Stadium Friday night.

After recounting his days playing football for Duke University, Action News reporter Walter Perez had some simple advice for Archbishop Wood's championship-bound football team when they take the field against Bishop McDevitt Friday night at Herhseypark Stadium.

"Look them right in the eyes, and punch them in the heads. Go Wood!" shouted Perez, electrifying the students gathered at the team's pep rally Thursday morning at the high school.

The Vikings will be making their third consecutive trip to the PIAA Class AAA State Championship, a rematch against their 2011 opponents, whom they shut out, 52-0, for Wood's first state championship victory. Warminster's board of supervisors chairman and Wood alumnus Leo Quinn told the players that another 52-0 score would be just fine Friday night.

"You guys helped put Warminster on the map," said Quinn. "The game will be playing on televisions at bars and restaurants throughout the township tomorrow night. A lot of people will be watching, and a lot of people care about this team."

There are currently 10 buses prepared to take students and fans to Hersheypark stadium for Friday night's showdown. Anyone who wants to attend the game should contact the Archbishop Wood Athletic Office at (215) 672-5050 ext 259. Ticket prices for the bus and game are $15 for students and $20 for adults.

The game will also play live on channel PCN (Verizon channel 9, Comcast channel 186), beginning at 7 p.m. and an encore presentation at 9:45 p.m.
