Archbishop Wood Viking Ice Men Celebrate a Great Season

The challenge of trying to repeat last season's success has already begun with the varsity and junior varsity teams evaluating for this year's spring league.

For the first time in almost a decade, the 2012-2013 Archbishop Wood Varsity Ice Hockey team led the pack to win the Suburban High School Hockey League season championship.

The Vikings began their quest for a championship season last spring by capturing first in the Rink at Warwick High School Spring League.

They then defeated powerhouse Central Bucks South to win the Coaches vs. Cancer Invitational Tournament in the fall to start their regular season play.

After defeating William Tennent in the 37th annual Thanksgiving eve game, and capturing the Warminster Challenge Cup in an exciting shoot out victory, the team battled through the Suburban High School Hockey League finishing first in the American Division, just ahead of defending SHSHL champions Upper Moreland.

The two top teams then faced off in a best of three championship final playoff series with Wood winning the league Championship defeating the Golden Bears 4-1 in a game three victory on March 5, 2013.

Moving on in the post season, the Vikings vied for the 2013 Flyers Cup Scholastic Championship as a 6th seed in the A Division. Wood was victorious against a solid Unionville team only then to be defeated by a skilled Springfield team in the quarterfinals.

The Viking finished their season with an overall 21 W – 4 L – 2 T team record.

Wood practices and plays their games at the Bucks County Ice Sports Center in Warminster.
