Kemper park is a great community asset

I live near Kemper park and I use it frequently. It is a really great park and my blog is about the park.

I live within walking distance of Kemper Park. The park is owned by the citizens of Warminster and maintained by the parks and recreation dept. of Warminster township.  The park is a really great place and many people use it every day. I have lived near the park for about 17 years. I started to use it for exercise about 4 years ago. Until then I barely noticed it, like I suspect most people do.  I can tell you that if you do not visit the park occassionally you are missing out on a nice experience.

I use the track for exercise. I changed my lifestyle about 7 years ago. I was morbidly obese and I was on my way to getting diabetes. Like most people on their way to getting diabetes, I had no idea. I started a supervised weight loss program and over two years I lost 100 pounds. I am in my 6th year of keeping it off. I am not in the process of acquiring diabetes.

I am a walker. I can walk a mile in less than 12 minutes. I have used the track at Kemper park to train for for nine endurance walks. I have done the Philadelphia marathon four times and I am training for my fifth. I have done the Broad Street run three times. I have also trained for a few shorter races.

The track at Kemper Park is a great place to train for endurance events. There is nice scenery to look at while you are walking. There are areas that are sunny when the sun is out and there are shady areas. I think the creek may lower the temperature just a little. Walking on the track is safer than walking on the street. There is one flaw. According to my GPS watch, the track is only 97 100ths of a mile. I make up for that deficit by walking to the end of the parking lot a few times.

What makes this park such a nice place?

The park has a nice playground for children.

There are benches that face the Little Neshaminy. The benches are a nice place for couples to sit and talk. They are good for anyone who wants to destress by watching the creek.

There are three pavillions with grills.

The track is a nice place to walk your dog. Please bring your own bag or use one from the park to dispose of your dog's waste.

There is a baseball diamond. It is used by many community teams.

There are open fields that are good for playing catch or other sports like football.

The stream is nice for fishing. If it has not rained for a week or two the stream gets very shallow. The water is clear. I have never seen a fish. I have never seen a fisherman reeling in or leaving with a fish. Still, the fishermen come. I have not fished much, but I know that fishermen fish with hope.

It is an interesting place to observe the creek. It is interesting to see how the creek changes over time. In future blogs I am going to display pictures of some of my favorite spots on the creek. I will also try to answer the question: Where do those "sea shells" come from?

I do not claim to know everything about the park. In future blogs I may be able to tell you more about the history of the park. How it was made, where does the creek water go. Does the water of the little neshaminy make it to the delaware river? I am a little nerdy. Inquiring minds want to know.

Well, until next time, "see you at the park."
