Volunteers Needed at Bucks Landing Food Pantry

With a full-time staff member retiring, the Bucks Landing Family Center needs some helping hands.

Generally speaking, if there are two things of which every food pantry in Bucks County always need more, it's stocked shelves and people to help out.

The Bucks Landing Family Center and Food Pantry got a little help with the former via a corporate sponsorship from ABB, Inc. However, the imminent loss of Fred Mumu, a full-time staffmember, has put the not-for-profit resource in a bit of a bind.

"We need volunteers to help us with the pantry," said Carolyn Pachas, coordinator of the food pantry located on the bottom floor of Building L in the Bucks Landing apartment complex. "We need someone here three days a week, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., to receive food donations and put everything in bags and on the shelves."

The food pantry is part of the YWCA of Bucks County's network of centers that assist women and families in need. Opened approximately eight years ago, the Warminster-based pantry services between 10 to 12 people per day.

"Thursdays are the heaviest," says Pachas. "That's when we get a lot of donations of bread from the supermarkets. People like to come and stock up on bread for the weekend."

The family center also provides social services for its guests, including ESL classes, financial literacy courses, parenting workshops and a space for girl scout meetings and after school care.

The Bucks Landing Family Center and Food Pantry is located at 120 E. Street Rd., Apartment L4-4, in Warminster. Those interested in volunteering can contact Carolyn Pachas at cpachas@ywcabucks.org.
