Warminster Whiz Kids: Girl Scout Troop 21520

Whiz Kids' name and ages: Fourth and fifth grade members of Junior Girl Scout Troop 21520

Accomplishment: Junior Girl Scout Troop 21520 hosted a Dessert Party and Talent Show with the purpose of raising donations for Christ’s Home for Children. The event was held at on Dec. 16. Admission was one donated item to Christ’s Home for Children or $3 per person. The event was attended by close to 150 people. Guests were treated to ice cream sundaes, water ice and homemade baked goods. The scouts served beverages and distributed coloring pages to the younger guests while parent volunteers served ice cream. Junior Girl Scout Troop 21520 then put on a talent show for all in attendance. Door prizes, which had been donated by local businesses, were awarded to audience members throughout the show.

Prior to the event, the girls in the troop solicited donations for Christ’s Home for Children from local businesses and placed donation boxes at several location in the Warminster area. All money raised during the Dessert Party and Talent Show was used to purchase items for Christ’s Home. In total, Junior Girl Scout Troop 21520 amassed more than 2,200 items for Christ’s Home for Children, including: diapers, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hair brushes and other much needed toiletries.

Key to Awesomeness: In the five years since the troop was formed, the girls have participated in several community service projects, including: picking up litter at local parks, preparing meals for the elderly and making activity boxes for children in the hospital. The troop is lead by Sara Acklin, Keith Acklin, Jamie Golderer and Theresa Hebling.
