YWCA Receives Grant to Help Youth and Families

The $10,000 grant will support after school programs and family centers.

YWCA Bucks County has received a $10,000 grant from the Connelly Foundation, of West Conshohocken, in support of its YWCA Healthy Kids/Healthy Communities Program.

Healthy Kids/Healthy Communities is dedicated to educational programming to underserved youth and families in Bucks County on the importance of proper nutrition and physical fitness in building healthy lifestyles.

Catherine M. Behrmann, acting chief executive officer of YWCA Bucks County, said the funds will support delivery of the program in 2011-2012 to at-risk, elementary-age children participating in after-school academic enrichment programs as well as to families at YWCA Family Centers located in local low-to moderate-income apartment complexes.

“We recognize that learning has become the cornerstone of the Connelly Foundation’s mission and a mainstay of its philanthropic interests, and for that reason we are especially grateful for this grant and the Foundation’s belief in what we do to build better lives for the residents of Bucks County,” said Behrmann. “Valuable partnerships like the one we have with the Connelly Foundation are so critical in ensuring our ability to meet the ever-increasing needs of those less fortunate in the community.”
