Bomb Threat at Tennent Determined Non-Credible

Police are questioning a person of interest related to the threat, and classes resumed on Monday with added police presence.

Warminster police combed the grounds of William Tennent Sunday night after an e-mail to school administrators indicated a bomb threat at the high school. No devices have been found, and investigators are questioning a person of interest. Police determined that the e-mail was a non-credible threat and school officials allowed classes to resume as scheduled Monday morning. "Rest assured that I would not have permitted faculty, staff, or students to enter the building if there were any reason for alarm," Centennial Superintendent Dr. Jennifer Cressman wrote in a statement. "The Warminster Police are to be commended for how quickly and decisively they acted upon being notified."

State Senate Adds $500M to Corbett's Budget

Lawmakers discuss vote.

Restoring $500 million to the proposed state budget, the Pennsylvania State Senate approved a $27.6 billion state budget in a 39-8 vote Wednesday. The Republican-penned bill restored funding to basic and higher education, human services programs, hospitals, nursing homes and services for individuals with disabilities—winning the approval of many Democrats, as well. In news releases from Democrats and Republicans alike, lawmakers called the vote a positive first step in the budget process and an attempt to provide Pennsylvanians services that they felt Gov. Tom Corbett's budget initially shortchanged. "Senate Bill 1466 will provide substantial restorations to certain areas of the Governor's proposed budget that reflect the fiscal realities …

School Board Approves Proposed 2012-2013 Budget

Centennial administration has until June 12 to make up the final $700,000 shortfall.

With a 7-2 vote, the Centennial School Board accepted the proposed 2012-2013 budget Tuesday night during it's regular meeting. As of now, the projections include a deficit that stands at $766,192. District business administrator Chris Berdnik has until June 12 to make up the difference before the school board approves the budget's final adoption. Berdnik originally calculated the deficit at $4 million, but items such as the sale of Leary, Longstreth and Stackpole Elementary Schools, the elimination of 24 full time staff positions and minor spending cuts in every department have whittled the number down. The preliminary budget started at more than $100 million in expenditures and is now down to $98 million. The proposed budget also includes…

Bell Schedule Absent from Meeting Agenda

The Centennial School Board had planned to discuss impending changes to the elementary school bell schedule at Monday evening's Operations Committee Meeting, but the item did not make the agenda.

Centennial School District recently proposed a change in the bell schedules at the elementary schools for the 2012-13 school year. The plans were met with much opposition from parents of children in the district. Following the large amount of feedback the district received, the school board voted to table the idea for discussion at a future meeting. Initially, the discussion was set to be reopened at an Operations Committee meeting scheduled for Monday, May 7.  In an email to district parents dated Friday, May 4, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Jennifer Cressman said the district has "not yet received the alternate plans" that were requested. Therefore, the bell schedule discussion scheduled for tonight's Operations Committee meeting has …
