10 Years of Iraq War Casualties: Bucks County Remembers

Twelve Bucks County residents are among the 197 Pennsylvanians and 4,802 Americans and allies lost in the war.

This week marks 10 years since the beginning of the Iraq war, a good time honor those from Bucks County who sacrificed their lives in the fight. By one count, the war is directly responsible for 189,000 deaths, not including those who died from hardship caused by the fighting. CNN has a stunning map of all casualties in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars. In all, 4,802 Americans and allies have died in the war, according to the Iraq Coalition Casualty Count, including 197 Pennsylvanians. Among them, are 12 people from Bucks. Warminster Naval Officer Injured in Local Explosion

Pasquale Troisi was celebrating his return from a recent tour in Afghanistan when he was injured in an explosion at a welcome home party, according to reports.

Sources say one of the two people injured in a gas explosion at an Upper Moreland Township home was a Naval officer who had just returned home to Warminster following a tour of duty in Afghanistan.   6ABC.com reports that 31-year-old Pasquale Troisi, of Warminster, was critically injured when a chiminea fireplace exploded in the back yard of a Hatboro home Friday evening. They report Troisi was at the home celebrating his return to the area at a party in his honor at the time of the incident. He was medivaced to Temple University Hospital. It is difficult to fathom that this young man died in such a senseless way. It is equally hard to understand that someone would do something as foolish as to add gasoline to anything meant to ignite. The flammability of gas and its vapors are explosively combustible and only a complete idiot would have thought of such a thing! Thank God others were not killed! Boy Scouts Give Pocket-Sized Thanks to Troops Overseas

Pack 139 gathered at Willow Dale Elementary Tuesday night to prepare 300 pocket flags that will be sent to members of the armed services recently deployed to Afghanistan.

Before the excitement and rush to Christmas gets truly underway, Boy Scout Master Jerry Moritz wanted his troop to spend Tuesday night remembering the importance of two November holidays, Thanksgiving and Veterans Day. "Tonight, I want us to spend time recognizing and thanking the men and women in uniform serving to protect our freedoms," Moritz told Boy Scout Pack 139 as they gathered at Willow Dale Elementary. After handing out awards and announcing scouts who have advanced a level, the troop got to work showing their appreciation by preparing 300 pocket flags. Each scout and their parents worked together to carefully fold small American flags and fit them in a 3-by-3 inch plastic bag, along with a note thanking the service member. All …
