New Fencing Coming to Davis Elementary

The Centennial School Board approved adding fencing around the Davis Elementary School playground.

Davis Elementary School students will be easier to supervise and less likely to fall down the school's steep hill during recess once a perimeter fence is installed, officials said.  The Centennial School Board this week approved a $16,500 fencing installation bid from Evergreen Fence Inc., to cover the addition of a fence around the school's playground.  "Enclosing the space helps to minimize the likelihood that a student will wander onto an adjacent property," Thomas Golden, the district's assistant facilities manager wrote in an inter office memo. "At the same time the physical barrier decreases the likelihood of unscheduled neighborhood visitors, be they pets or people, during the school day. The fencing prevents students from …

School Board Says Dismissals Going Well Despite Complaints

Members of the Centennial School Board discussed dismissal time at two of the district's elementary schools Tuesday evening.

Several members of the Centennial School Board said they were contacted by phone and via email following a posting on Patch regarding the dismissal process at McDonald Elementary School. "Some people would read these articles... and use many choice words about our school directors and how we really don't care," said School Board Member Jane Schrader Lynch. "Nothing is perfect in this world, but there is a lot of effort to make sure things work well." Board Member Michael Hartline said he took a few hours off of work to attend Tuesday afternoon's dismissal and investigate the situation. At Tuesday evening's school board meeting, Hartline reported the following: "I arrived at the school at 2:55 p.m. There were nine cars waiting to pick …

My daughter's bus home from AM kindergarten at Willow Dale was very late on the 1st day, but I was very happy to see there was an aide on the bus making sure all the kids got off off at the right place. It has been pretty close to on time since then. I am satisfied.   more ›

Region 1 School Construction Behind Schedule

The construction of the new Region 1 elementary school is currently running weeks behind schedule and questions loom as to whether the district will be able to deliver on their promise of a Sept. 2012 opening.

Construction at the Region 1 elementary school site on Maple Avenue has resumed and at a feverish pace, as the district needs to make up for several weeks of lost time. Earlier this month, district administrators said the Region 1 elementary school building project was thrown nearly 6 weeks off of its already tight time line by Upper Southampton Township. Township officials said the district is simply laying the groundwork for deflecting the blame when they can’t deliver on their promise to open the school in September 2012. At the Centennial School Board’s August Operations Committee Meeting, Assistant Superintendent of Operations William Gretton said the district submitted plans for approval to the township in a timely fashion, but …

I hope that the school board doesn't expect the taxpayer to now pay for those 6 weeks that are lost. This board is constantly approving changes to the high school. They haven't released a total price tag for that project and it is well over schedule. I have never seen a board operate this inefficiently before, not even the SRC from Philadelphia. They should remeber that it isn't their wonderful …   more ›
