After Hurricane Sandy: Hiring a Public Adjuster

The Bucks County Office of Consumer Protection advises homeowners who sustained damage after Hurricane Sandy to be wary when hiring a public adjuster.

Q.      My brother and sister-in-law own a home in the Lower Bucks County area.  Their home was one of the many homes that sustained severe damage in the recent Hurricane Sandy. They have been telling my husband and me about the numerous problems that they are facing since that time.  They also mentioned that they have hired a Public Adjuster.  Where would someone go to get information about public insurance adjusters?     MFB, Plumsteadville A.       Public insurance adjusters are independent individuals who, for a fee, legally represent a person who has experienced a property, fire or casualty loss by aiding them in recovering money from their own insurance company. They are not a representative or employee of your insurance company. For…

Public adjusters are wotyj every penny when having to deal with an insurance company. The insurance companys adjuster is tasked with settling your claim at the lowest possible cost to the insurance company. That alone should tell you that they don't have your best interests at heart. The other comment about the insurance companies dragging out the claim is also true. Yhey can afford to be without…   more ›

Board Approves Reduction of Spring Break Holiday

Days lost from Hurricane Sandy forced the district to reduce the end of March break down to two days. Any vacations scheduled for that week before Dec. 12 will not have to adhere to district policy and obtain the statement of educational benefit.

The power outages caused by the destructive wind and rain of Hurricane Sandy closed Centennial schools for four days. By Superintendant Dr. Jenny Cressman's calculation, the loss of those instructional days would move the end of the school year to June 27, and the area has yet to encounter the bulk of winter weather. It is for that reason that the school board accepted the proposal to reduce the planned end-of-March spring break down from six days to only two. Now, instead of a stretch of vacation starting Monday, March 25 and ending Monday, April 1, Centennial schools will be closed only on Tuesday, March 26 and Friday, March 29. The change means that June 20, 2013, remains the last scheduled day of school.  The two days were maintained …

Centennial Families Donate 3,000 Pounds of Clothing to Sandy Victims

The public was invited to drop off donations at the public schools during the month of November.

Six, large cardboard boxes filled to the top with clothing and sitting in the parking lot of a warehouse in Warrington proved once again how generous Centennial students and their families can be. Shortly after Hurricane Sandy finished its destructive rampage through the Mid-Atlantic region, Centennial administration invited the public to donate gently used and new clothes, coats, blankets and other items and drop them of one of the three elementary schools, Willow Dale, McDonald or Davis. After three to four weeks of collection, the call for help generated between 3,000 and 4,000 pounds. That's the estimation School Board Director Michael Hartline made as he used a forklift to load each of the six palettes onto a delivery truck headed for…
