Moms Talk Q&A: Is My Kid a Slacker?

How do we keep our kids from becoming the ones described in a Central Bucks teacher's blog?

Welcome back to Moms Talk, where our Moms Council of experts and smart moms take your questions, give advice and share solutions. This week's question relates to the CB East teacher who was removed for blogging about her students: "So I'm reading about this teacher from Central Bucks and what she said about her kids and how people are reacting. My question is this, how do I know if my kid is turning into one of these slackers? I mean, I think my kid is great, and the teachers never give me any reason to think otherwise. But how do I know that I'm seeing the real picture?" Great question!

I think the most you can hope for is that if your child is struggling academically, the teachers will let you know. I had problems getting even that much out of my step-daughter's teachers, even after I contacted them all in the beginning of the school year and asked them to let me know if she was having any problems. I also would periodically contact them to touch base but got very few responses…   more ›

Mokie your situation sounds similar to what I went through. After meeting several times with the Vice Principal and the Guidance Counselor and not seeing lasting results a letter to the Principal along with a copy to the Superintendent and School Board President was my next step. I received a reply from the School Board President and the Principal. Sadly the reply from the Principal was nothing …   more ›
