AAA: Gas Prices go Down, Travel Goes Up

With gas prices down 50 cents since September, 93.3 million Americans are expected to take a trip this holiday season, an increase of 1.6 percent.

AAA projects 93.3 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the year-end holidays, an increase of 1.6 percent over the 91.8 million people who traveled last year. This increase brings holiday travel figures to within half a million of the decade high mark seen during the 2006/2007 season. The year-end holiday travel period is defined as Saturday, Dec. 22. to Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013. AAA estimates the national average price of gasoline will slowly drop through the end of the year and average between $3.20-3.40 a gallon by New Year’s Day. Gas prices dropped about 50 cents a gallon on average from September through early December, but remain at record highs for this time of year. AAA does not expect gas prices to have a …

AAA: Gas prices could drop 50 Cents by Year’s End

Find the cheapest gas in Warminster.

Gas prices dropped, on average, 1.5 cents in Pennsylvania and 1.1 cents in Bucks and Montgomery Counties from a week ago, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. The average price of self-serve gasoline is $3.685, down 22.4 cents from a month ago and 21.7 cents higher than a year ago. After Hurricane Sandy, there continues to be a distribution problem and not a systemic issue with gasoline supplies in New York and New Jersey. There is plenty of gasoline ready to make its way to stations, but it has to get there first. Once this distribution gets fully back online, AAA expects pump prices in affected areas to follow the rest of the country. AAA predicts that the national average price will be $3.25-$3.40 by Thanksgiving and $3.10-$3.30 by the…

Gas Prices Drop a Nickel

Gas prices tend to fall from September through Christmas, the AAA said.

Gas prices dropped an average of 6.3 cents in Pennsylvania and 4.5 cents in Bucks and Montgomery counties from a week ago, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. Nationally, the average price of self-serve gasoline is $3.810, down 4.9 cents from last week. Historically, gas prices tend to fall from September through Christmas. AAA expects this trend, which has held true for seven of the previous nine years, to continue in 2012 and predicts that the national average price will continue to fall as we approach the end of the year. For the last several months, rising global crude oil prices have contributed to high gas prices, but that trend has recently reversed. If you spotted a good price on gas in the Warminster area, tell us in comments…

Gas Prices Jump 7.7 Cents Since Last Week

Find the cheapest gas in Warminster.

Fuel prices dropped in early spring, and for the last 100 days gas prices have been cheaper than they were last year, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. In this last week, however, the national average price for gasoline surpassed last year’s cost. In the Bucks and Montgomery area, gas went up 7.7 cents since last week and about 26 cents since last month. That works out to 7.3 cents higher than last year at this time.             How do higher gas prices affect your spending? Prices at the pump have been broadly driven by higher global crude oil prices, due to mixed news for the global economy tensions with Iran, the report states. A favorable jobs report recently also indicated more people are getting jobs now. More employment means …

AAA Makes Predictions for August Gas Prices

After fuel prices rose sharply in July, AAA releases outlook for August.

AAA released its weekly fuel gauge report yesterday, showing a sharp increase in gas prices through the month of July and predicting that prices will remain high through Labor Day. According to AAA numbers, national gas prices increased 5.1 percent, or 17 cents a gallon, over the course of July, to close out at $3.50 a gallon. That's the first monthly increase since March and the largest increase for July since at least 2000, when AAA began keeping records. If it seems like prices had been low this summer, they were. Fuel costs had decreased three months in a row before falling to a summertime low of $3.326 on July 2. However, prices rose quickly to close out the month at the national average of $3.50, $3.66 in the Philadelphia region. …
