Warminster Rotary Donates $4,000 to Local Food Pantries

The organization presented the funds to local charities during its weekly luncheon at Giuseppe's.

The holidays have a unique way of bringing the generosity out of everybody, much to the benefit of local charities desperate to make a merrier Christmas for needy families. But when it's your mission to provide assistance for those hungry families all year long, $1,000 can go a long way toward helping out.  "Everybody gives more at this time of year," said Sandy Blitzstein, from the Bucks Landing YWCA Food Bank. "The donations can really dry up in the spring and summer. This will really help fill that void." Blitzstein and her colleague, Kristin Chapin, represented one of four local food pantries that gathered at Giuseppe's Tuesday afternoon to accept a $1,000 donation from the Warminster Rotary. In the past, Rotary usually selects one or …

How Generous are Warminster Residents?

A recently released study of charitable donations shows that Warminster taxpayers donated more than $16 million in 2008.

As a whole, Warminster residents gave up 3.6 percent of their discretionary income in 2008, according to a new study released by the Chronicle of Philanthropy. Based on tax records from the IRS for 2008 – the most recent year for which such data are available – Warminster residents in the 18974 zip code gave a median contribution of $2,001 to charity on an income of $55,655. By comparison, the median contribution was 3.4 percent in in Bucks County, 3.9 percent in Pennsylvania and 4.7 percent for the entire United States. The data comes from a special report, “How America Gives,” that examines charitable giving by zip code and by income. The study is based on the exact dollar amount of charitable deductions made by American taxpayers on …

Warminster Rotary Awards Scholarships

Students from Archbishop Wood, William Tennent and MBIT also accepted awards from the Giaimo Family Scholarship Fund.

As the chairperson of Warminster Rotary's scholarship committee, James Crouthamel has the perfect remedy for whenever he feels a little pessimistic about the future of the country. The tall stack of applications for the rotary's annual scholarship fills Crouthamel with hope and admiration every year, and 2012 has been no different. "The quality of these students is outstanding," said Crouthamel. "They are the cream of the crop at their schools. They are unbelievable, with their grades and the amount of extracurricular and volunteer activities that they do." Following a careful screening and interview process, three students, one each from Archbishop Wood, William Tennent and Middle Bucks Institute of Technology, were awarded with a $1,500 …

Warminster Rotary Hosts High School Speech Contest

Adam Adnane took first prize over three of his fellow William Tennent debate teammates and moves on to the regional Rotary challenge.

With the passion and ease of a seasoned politician, William Tennent junior Adam Adnane wowed the members of the Warminster Rotary Club gathered at Giuseppe's restaurant Tuesday night with his fiery presentation on the need to dramatically improve America's education system. His seven minute argument that the United States needs to do everything it can do catch up to the rest of the world in terms of educating its citizens was impressive enough to earn Adam first prize in Warminster Rotary's first 4-Way Test Speech Contest. He will go on to compete in the regional contest at Central Bucks South on April 7 at 10 a.m., and, if he wins again, will continue to the district finals at Bear Creek in Macungie on April 21. Adam bested three of his …

Volunteers Lead The Way for Warminster's Safetytown

The new play area being built in Warminster Community Park is nearing completion.

Sunday, during the third Safetytown build, the community, once again, came through for this creative project organized by previous Warminster Rotary Club president, Claudia Quinn. This 'Mini-Warminster” being built in Warminster Community Park is a collaborative community effort. Its inception began when Quinn, also a board member of Parks and Recreation, set out to fulfill a requirement to complete a charity or community based project. After asking Karen Whitney of the Department of Recreation what was on her wish-list, Safetytown was born. Leo Quinn, Warminster Township Supervisor, said the turn out for people showing up in the cloudless, hot sun to hammer, saw and sweat reached approximately forty per day. Quinn said the response was …
