For the first time in almost a decade, the 2012-2013 Archbishop Wood Varsity Ice Hockey team led the pack to win the Suburban High School Hockey League season championship. The Vikings began their quest for a championship season last spring by capturing first in the Rink at Warwick High School Spring League. They then defeated powerhouse Central Bucks South to win the Coaches vs. Cancer Invitational Tournament in the fall to start their regular season play. After defeating William Tennent in the 37th annual Thanksgiving eve game, and capturing the Warminster Challenge Cup in an exciting shoot out victory, the team battled through the Suburban High School Hockey League finishing first in the American Division, just ahead of defending SHSHL …

The Archbishop Wood Cheerleading team is riding high on its way to compete in the PIAA's first state championship competition for the sport.
After years of watching from the sidelines as the football team plowed its way through the competition for championship glory, the Archbishop Wood cheerleading team will finally have chance to add a state trophy to the high school's shelves. The Vikings' cheer squad will compete with more than 90 other teams, including Philadelphia Caholic League rivals Lansdale Catholic and Archbishop Ryan, in the inaugural PIAA Competitive Spirit Championship at Hershey Park Stadium on Saturday. "We're so glad that the league has finally recognized cheerleading as a sport," said Jackie Britton, head coach of the team. The organizations joined forces to raise food and money that will be donated to Philabundance.
As families come together for holiday feasts over the next few weeks, member sof the Warminster community have come together to help make sure that needier families have a little bit more to put on the dining room table. Warminster Rotary and the Archbishop Wood student council pooled their resources and collected more than 300 pounds of food and $500 cash that will be donated to Philabundance Food Bank, which will use the donations to help stock local food pantries. The food drive is a bit of a departure for Warminster Rotary's fundraising arm. In the past, the organization has chosen one or two families in the township who need a little extra help to get by and concentrated their energy to raising money. This year, club president Greg …

Archbishop Wood's Jeff McDonald has been named a winner of the National Liberty Museum's Young Heroes Award for his perseverance following a leg amputation and his efforts to raise money to help other kids in need of prosthetic limbs. He and the other winners will be honored at a ceremony at the museum in Philadelphia later today. We've started a new contest! This time, we want to know what you did this summer. Post pictures here, and the winner will earn a $50 gift card and a back-to-school package. Thursday's board of supervisors meeting at the Warminster administration building started off with a special presentation that celebrated the achievement of Archbishop Wood's state champion girls basketball team. Head coach Jim Ricci and the three team captains, Alex Heck, Taylor Kaminski and Lauren Nealon, accepted a township proclamation from supervisor chairperson Leo Quinn, who was impressed at the team's three-year run of championships. "They lost a lot of talent last year," said Quinn. "To come back and win again says a lot about the quality of coaching and the integrity of the players." Two fathers, whose children attend Archbishop Wood, were cited for disorderly conduct Wednesday afternoon after an argument turned into a physical fight at a Lansdale Catholic boys' lacrosse game. One parent was treated by Volunteer Medical Service Corps of Lansdale at the scene, police said. Lansdale Police did not release the names of the two men because "both parents, though cited for their actions, had the sense to step away from the field and out of view of the other adults, and more importantly, from the students playing on the field." Both fathers are in their early 50s, police said. One lives in Jenkintown and another lives in Jamison, Bucks County. The varsity girls team were brought on stage of the high school auditorium and honored for their third consecutive state title.
The students at Archbishop Wood High School took a break from classes Wednesday afternoon to properly congratulate the girls basketball team for winning its third consecutive PIAA state championship title. The varsity girls were trucked onto the campus on the back of a large trailer and welcomed by the cheering throng of their fellow students and ushered to the stage of the school auditorium. Head Coach Jim Ricci thanked the crowd, including faculty and parents, for all of their support during six-day weeks that included practices and games. State Senator Stewart Greenleaf then took the podium and lauded Ricci's ability to get the team's offense and defense working together to defeat the high-scoring Lancaster Catholic in the state final, …
