Warminster Fire Department Responds to Back-to-Back Blazes

Crews responded to a fire at the Street Road Industrial Park Tuesday night, then extinguished a kitchen fire at Bucks Landing less than two hours later.

A quiet day turned into a busy Tuesday night for the Warminster Fire Department as engines responded to two fires within two hours. The first call came in a little after 6 p.m. when an office worker at the Warminster Corporate Center on Street Road saw smoke pouring in from a vent, according to Fire Chief Mitch Shapiro. It turned out to be an HVAC fire on the roof of Building C. "Some insulation caught fire," said Shapiro. "By the time we got to it, it was only smoldering. It only took a few minutes to put it out." The next call came in at approximately 7:30 p.m., this time at the Bucks Landing Apartment complex. According to Shapiro, a kitchen fire in a second floor unit caused the alarm. Young Boy Injured in Vehicle Incident

A young boy was hurt Friday evening in the parking lot of the Bucks Landing Apartment Complex.

A young male was injured just before 5 p.m. Friday evening in the upper parking lot at the busy Bucks Landing apartment complex after he struck a moving car, police said. The "very young boy" suffered non-life threatening injuries and was rushed to Abington Memorial Hospital, Sergeant John McKenna reported. The boy was released from the hospital late last night. A police investigation revealed the boy, whose exact age McKenna was unsure of, was riding a small non-motorized scooter and darted between two parked vehicles, striking the side of a moving car that had just left a parking spot. During the afterschool hours, the apartment complex's parking lots and surrounding grass-covered yard are often filled with school-aged children. The …

Pair Sent to Prison Over Bucks Landing Stabbing Death

The two men made plea deals with the Bucks County District Attorney for the attack and killing of Tyrone Newman in June 2011.

The investigation of Tyrone Newman's death at Bucks Landing Apartments last year has come to a close with Monday's sentencing of the two people responsible for stabbing and killing the Warminster man, phillyburbs.com reports. Laurie "Turtle" Wint, 33, pleaded guilty to third degree murder and will serve 12-1/2 to 25 years, and John Briggs pleaded no contest to conspiracy to commit voluntary manslaugher, earning a seven to 14 year trip to state prison. Earlier investigations by the police showed that Wint and Briggs tracked down Newman on July 24, 2011, to settle a payment Newman owed a man named "Mike" for a drug transaction. Trial Date Set for Bucks Landing Stabbing Suspects

Two men charged with last year's killing of Tyrone Newman were arraigned in Doylestown Tuesday and will go to trial May 7.

Not guilty pleas were entered Tuesday afternoon by the attorneys of two Camden men accused of stabbing and killing a Warminster man in one of the Bucks Landing apartment buildings last year, phillyburbs.com reports. Laurie "Turtle" Wint, 23, and John "Jermaine" Briggs, 24, will go to trial May 7 for the murder of Tyrone Newman in June 2011. According to phillyburbs.com, an investigation revealed that Newman had received drugs from another person, named "Mike" and did not pay for them. Wint, Briggs and "Mike" confronted Newman about the payment, sparking a fight. Police say that Newman sliced at Wint's face with a knife, then ran off. Jury Deadlocked on Rape Charge, Judge Rules Mistrial

Hakeem Lee was convicted for counts of aggravated assault and unlawful contact with a minor, but the jury could not agree whether or not he raped a Warminster girl last year.

A Philadelphia man accused of raping a 14-year-old Warminster girl in a storage room at Bucks Landing Apartments has been found guilty of aggravated indecent assault, but the jury could not come to an agreement over the rape charge and forced Bucks County Judge Clyde Waite to declare a partial mistrial, phillyburbs.com reports. Deputy District Attorney Nathaniel Spang told phillyburbs.com that he will wait and see what the family of the victim wants to do before a decision is made about retrying Lee for the rape. Lee can face up to five years in prison for being found guilty of aggravated indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor and indecent assault. Warminster Girl Testifies Against Accused Rapist

The teenager told a jury that Hakeem Lee sexually assaulted her inside a storage room at the Bucks Landing apartment complex.

The first witness in the trial of accused rapist Hakeem Lee took the stand at the Bucks County courthouse in Doylestown Thursday and told jurors that Lee lured her into a storage room at the Bucks Landing apartment complex and raped her, phillyburbs.com reports. According to her testimony, the girl, who as 14 years-old at the time, was walking home from Wal-Mart at 1 p.m. on Feb. 3, 2011, when she encountered the 23 year old Lee. They conversed for a little while, when Lee asked if she wanted to have sex. After she declined, they continued walking toward the apartment complex.  Lee had the girl follow him to what he said was his cousin's apartment, but as soon as he opened the door, she knew something was wrong. Murder Suspect Transferred to Warminster Police Custody

One of two suspects accused of the stabbing death of Tyrone Newman was charged with criminal homicide and placed in county jail with no possibility for bail.

New Jersey police have transferred to the Warminster and Bucks County detectives the custody of a suspect accused of the murder of 32-year-old Tyrone Newman at Bucks Landing Apartments in July 2011. Wint has been in custody since his arrest by New Jersey authorities on July 31, 2011. Wint was found hiding in a closet in a house in Camden New Jersey. At the time, Wint was also wanted for a homicide that occurred in Camden in June 2011. Wint was extradited and taken back to Bucks County were he was arraigned by Magisterial District Justice Mark D. Douple on homicide and related charges and remanded to the Bucks County prison in without bail. A court date has not been set.  It is alleged that on July 24 at approximately 2:30 am, Wint …

Feud Led to Overnight Knife Attack

A young man suffered non-life threatening injuries after a late night knife attack in the Warminster Heights section of the township.

Police are investigating the knifing of a 23-year-old Warminster man who was attacked late last night behind the Bucks Landing Apartment Complex in the Warminster Heights section of the township. The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries and refused to be transported to the hospital, according to Warminster Police Chief Michael Murphy. Around 11 p.m., the victim was walking from the Warminster Heights housing development to the 7-Eleven, at the corner of Hardman Lane and Street Road, when he encountered two black males, behind the M building at Bucks Landing. Second Suspect Wanted for Bucks Landing Murder Under Arrest

The second of two men wanted in connection of the murder of Tyrone Newman was arrested Monday in Burlington, N.J. According to the authorities, John T. Briggs, 24, surrendered himself to the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office in Burlington. Briggs was arrested without incident and was charged by Burlington County Detectives with being a fugitive from justice and is being held without bail. The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office will seek to extradite Briggs to Pennsylvania to face homicide charges in Bucks County. A court date has not been set. Laurie Wint, 23, was arrested early Sunday morning by Camden County and New Jersey State Police and remains in their custody. Newman was stabbed to death on July 24 at the Bucks Landing …

Police Arrest Man Wanted in Connection to Bucks Landing Murder

Camden and New Jersey State police arrested Laurie "Turtle" Wint early Sunday morning. Another suspect is still at large.

An anonymous tipster led Camden and New Jersey State Police early Sunday morning to the front door of a home where one of two suspects wanted in connection to the stabbing death of Tyrone Newman was hiding out. Laurie Wint, 23, a.k.a. "Turtle" or "Lance," tried to escape out the back door only to find the property completely surrounded. He ducked back into the house and was found hiding in a basement closet. Wint was armed with a rifle when found. No shots were fired and Wint was placed in the Camden County Jail on $1 million bail. He is suspected by Camden County of shooting and killing New Jersey resident Kevin Miller June 8. It is alleged Wint shot Miller at Eutaw Park at approximately 7 p.m. on June 8.
