School Board Says Dismissals Going Well Despite Complaints

Members of the Centennial School Board discussed dismissal time at two of the district's elementary schools Tuesday evening.

Several members of the Centennial School Board said they were contacted by phone and via email following a posting on Patch regarding the dismissal process at McDonald Elementary School. "Some people would read these articles... and use many choice words about our school directors and how we really don't care," said School Board Member Jane Schrader Lynch. "Nothing is perfect in this world, but there is a lot of effort to make sure things work well." Board Member Michael Hartline said he took a few hours off of work to attend Tuesday afternoon's dismissal and investigate the situation. At Tuesday evening's school board meeting, Hartline reported the following: "I arrived at the school at 2:55 p.m. There were nine cars waiting to pick …

My daughter's bus home from AM kindergarten at Willow Dale was very late on the 1st day, but I was very happy to see there was an aide on the bus making sure all the kids got off off at the right place. It has been pretty close to on time since then. I am satisfied.   more ›

Bell Schedule Discussion Continues

Four options for the revision of Centennial School District's elementary school bell schedule will be presented at Monday's finance committee meeting.

According to the agenda for Monday's Finance Committee meeting, members of the school board will review and discuss four options for revising the bell schedule for 2012-13. This discussion stems from a proposal realeased last month to change  the bell schedules at its elementary schools for the 2012-13 school year. That initial proposal was met with a large amount of opposition from parents and members of the community.  The discussion was tabled and was set to be reopened at an Operations Committee meeting on Monday, May 7; however, the district had not received the alternate plans in time and had to reschedule the discussion. Some other noteworthy items on Monday evening's finance committee meeting agenda: discussion of several …

I agree that traffic patterns differ depending on the surrounding businesses. I commute into the city, and can have between a 45 minute drive or a 1 hour and 15 minute drive. We cannot control what goes on as far as traffic, and neither can the district. That is why they suggest arriving at the bus stop at least 5 minutes ahead of the scheduled time. I would rather have a bus driver drive with …   more ›

School Board Approves Elementary School Sale, Tables Bell Schedule

District board members and administrators received strong feedback from parents regarding the two issues.

Two topics that recently attracted much attention over the last few weeks were addressed by the Centennial School Board Monday night. A high turnout of parents watched as the school directors unanimously approved both the sale agreement of the Leary, Longstreth and Stackpole properties to County Builders and the tabling of the altered elementary bell schedule while administration re-analyzed the situation. The sale of the three buildings now moves into a 60-day due diligence phase, followed by a 30-day waiting period until the closing date. County Builders is purchasing the properties for a grand total of $1.33 million ($480,000 for Stackpole, $450,000 for Leary and Longstreth). Centennial Superintendent Dr. Jenny Cressman addressed many …

Just another example of Centennials school board showing a lack of respect to the residents and taxpayers of this disctrict. Would have been nice to see this much interest last year when Dr. Pollack and the other four board members including Lynch and Huff who supported the new teachers contract which put us in further debt. One year later they tell us their is no money to pay for it. And now …   more ›
