Police Draw Rifles, Descend Upon Quiet Street for Call

Area cops with AR-15 rifles poured into Ivyland Tuesday afternoon for reports of an armed subject. The incident turned out to be a strange misunderstanding.

Police cars zoomed to Brewster Drive in Ivyland and officers with service weapons and AR-15 patrol rifles drawn filed onto the residential street after reports of an armed subject Tuesday afternoon. No arrests were made and, according to Ivyland police Chief Nicholas Rosato, the whole situation was the result of “misinformation.” Police received reports of a subject with a gun on Brewster Drive near the Bucks County Emergency Services building in the early afternoon hours. The person with a gun was reported by dispatched to be involved with a domestic dispute, Rosato said. “Warminster asked if I wanted help - I said yes,” the borough’s lone weekday patrolman and chief said. Ivyland Postpones Trick-or-Treating to Saturday

The borough continues its cleanup efforts following Hurricane Sandy.

Ivyland Borough Mayor Charles Ritter has confirmed via e-mail to Patch that Halloween trick-or-treating has been postponed to Saturday, 2-5 p.m. It is the latest of a slew of Bucks County townships and boroughs that have moved Halloween festivities to allow emergency management crews time to continue cleaning up the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and work on restoring power to the more than 50,000 Bucks County residents without electricity. Warminster and Warrington have also moved trick-or-treating to Saturday, 2-5 p.m. Northampton and Newtown townships have moved to next Wednesday, Nov. 7.
