Warminster, U.K., Mayor Visiting in September

The mayor's visit is the latest development of a new friendship between the twin towns.

A visit in May by a sports bar owner from a small community in the United Kingdom named Warminster has sparked the beginning of a new friendship between the twin towns.

Nick Pitcher toured the landmarks of the Pennsylvania township a few months ago and left with an arm full of gifts and nothing but good things to tell his fellow residents.

Township supervisor chairperson Leo Quinn announced at a recent meeting that the Warminster, U.K., Mayor Paul Batchelor will be in town sometime during the week of September 7. The exact day of his visit has not yet been scheduled, but he will not arrive in time for Warminster Day.

The administration will get to work on preparing a proper welcome for the mayor, Quinn said.

Quinn credited Warminster Rotary Club President Greg Hucklebridge with showing Pitcher and his son, Martin, around town and leaving them with a strong impression of Warminster, Pa.

The mayor's visit will be the next development in setting up a cultural exchange between the sister towns. According to the Wiltshire Times, Pitcher presented details of his visit during a town council meeting.

Batchelor and the council members agreed to keep the growing relationship informal, saying the twinning will benefit the small town's local economy by attracting American tourists.

Located two hours west of London, Warminster, UK, is just minutes away from Stonehenge, the town of Bath and other popular destinations.
